A Qlustar security update bundle is a cumulative update of packages that are taken from upstream Debian/Ubuntu without modification. Only packages that are used in a typical HPC/Storage cluster installation are mentioned in Qlustar Security Advisories. Other non-HPC related updates also enter the Qlustar repository, but their functionality is not separately verified by the Qlustar team. It was discovered that OpenSSL incorrectly allocated memory buffers in the SSL/TLS state machine when receiving handshake data. A remote attacker could possibly use this issue to cause OpenSSL to consume excessive memory, leading to a denial of service. This issue is known as the “HollowByte” denial of service.
It was discovered that Samba’s pam_winbind incorrectly handled home directory ownership when mkhomedir was enabled. A local attacker could possibly use this issue to cause a denial of service by triggering a change in ownership of the root directory.
Arjun Basnet, Douglas Bagnall, and Andrew Tridgell discovered that Samba incorrectly handled TSIG packets with name compression. A remote attacker could possibly use this issue to cause Samba to crash, resulting in a denial of service.
Tristan Madani discovered that Samba incorrectly handled malformed ASN.1 kpasswd packets. An authenticated user could possibly use this issue to cause Samba to crash, resulting in a denial of service.
Andrew Tridgell and Tristan Madani discovered that Samba incorrectly handled TKEY name registration. A remote attacker could possibly use this issue to exhaust the TKEY name cache, resulting in a denial of service.
It was discovered that Samba incorrectly handled internal LDB special directory names when processing authenticated LDAP requests. An authenticated user could possibly use this issue to perform unauthorized modifications and gain control of a domain.
Andrew Tridgell and Tristan Madani discovered that Samba incorrectly handled LDAP Compare requests. An authenticated user could possibly use this issue to obtain sensitive information.
Tristan Madani, Andrew Tridgell, and Martin Schwenke discovered that the CTDB protocol in Samba had insufficient bounds checking. A remote attacker could possibly use this issue to cause Samba to crash, resulting in a denial of service.
Zhihan Zheng discovered that FreeIPMI had several buffer overflow vulnerabilities in ipmi-oem response message handling. A local attacker with control a malicious IPMI device or simulator could possibly cause FreeIPMI to crash, resulting in a denial of service.
It was discovered that the GNU C Library iconv function incorrectly handled certain IBM character sets. An attacker could possibly use this issue to cause a denial of service.
It was discovered that the GNU C Library DNS functions incorrectly handled certain DNS server responses when using gethostbyaddr or gethostbyaddr_r. An attacker in a privileged network position could possibly use this issue to cause an application to violate DNS specification or obtain incorrect hostname information. This issue only affected Qlustar 14.
It was discovered that the GNU C Library deprecated debugging functions incorrectly enforced caller-supplied buffer lengths. An attacker could possibly use this issue to cause a denial of service or execute arbitrary code.
It was discovered that the GNU C Library scanf family of functions contained a heap buffer overflow when processing certain format specifiers. An attacker could possibly use this issue to cause a denial of service or execute arbitrary code.
It was discovered that the GNU C Library ungetwc function incorrectly handled certain character encodings. An attacker could possibly use this issue to obtain sensitive information or cause a denial of service.
It was discovered that the GNU C Library deprecated debugging functions incorrectly validated DNS response record data. An attacker could possibly use this issue to cause a denial of service or obtain sensitive information.
